Noise Ordinance / Rules

On several occasions in the past couple of weeks Reith Riley have been working until 2 - 2.30am, Even with our windows closed the noise is annoying enough to prevent us falling asleep / staying asleep. I have read the Ada Ordinances and my interpretation is that no business can make excessive noise after 9pm, without township permission. If this is correct what can I do at a resident to get this ordinance enforced, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Downtown Development Authority

The Ada Township Board is currently considering whether to establish a Downtown Development Authority for Ada Township, and if so, which lands within the Township to include in the DDA District boundary.

The Township Board is holding a public hearing on the proposed creation of a DDA and establishment of its boundaries, on Monday, July 28, at 7:30 p.m., in the Township Hall Assembly Room.

The Board will not decide on whether to adopt an ordinance establishing a DDA until early October.

Bike Path Maintenance

I noticed that the path was swept a while ago and the sides of the bike path were mowed about two weeks ago. Maintenance seems generally good along the sections I ride daily. The approaches to the bridge are quite bumpy on the bridge nearest the water metering building at Ada and Village Springs Drive. Bikes hit the wood so hard they are chipping it away on the East end. Also, the foliage on the bridge on Ada Drive near Clifford is getting a little long. Branches hang down over the path and vines are growing on the railings. Thanks.

Once again, John Westra, in a vain attempt to discredit some of his opponents and campaign during another board meeting, made a statement about how other candidates (indicating that some of the violators were present) had campaing signs that were over the four square feet limit.
Westra knows that the limit is nine sq. ft. per sign. He has campaigned before and has received the letter from the Kent County Road Commission indicating the sign limits.
Too bad some listen to his blathering.

Spring Cleanup Day

Is there a date schedules for Spring Cleanup dropoff yet? If so when?

I tried to reply on the discussion regarding high speed internet.

The situation is even worse for those of us on rural private roads who do not have access to Comcast (without paying $4,000.00 for cable installation) and have to use AT&T basic DSL which is delivered at the slowest rate available. Is there any hope for us?

I had heard that AT&T would be updating their wiring so that residents could receive the AT&T UVerse which would include cable and high speed internet services but cannot find out if this will be brought to rural Ada, also. Have you heard anything? I called AT&T but they could not answer my questions.

Road repair

I recently read that Ada Township is putting around $116k towards fixing the roads in town specifically Thornapple River Dr through the village. I'm pleased that this is planned to be fixed as the road is terrible right now.

What are the plans? Is it going to be fixed from Fulton to the bridge over Thornapple River?

On a different topic? Has there been any discussion about improving the area next to the shops by the Grand River. Seems there is a lot of space there by the Grand River bridge that could be used for a park or green space?

One of Ada's best and fastest growing assets is our extensive non-motorized trail system. The first trail section running along the length of Ada Drive and connecting with the Cascade trail at the SW end of the Township, has seen great use. Throughout the year, even in winter, you can see people out enjoying the trail.

Many residents who live along the proposed Phase II trail route on Knapp, are concerned about which side of road the trail will ultimately be on. If the trail is going to be completed in 2008, this issue and any related issues involving engineering, easements, etc. needs to be resolved ASAP.

Burning ban in Ada township?

I'd like to see a complete burning ban throughout Ada township put to a vote at a future meeting. I was just outside about 9:00 PM and could barely breath the smoke was so bad from neighbors burning leaves...

Rental requirements

I stumbled across this wonderful template ordinance for Ada Township to use to protect the value of our homes as well as the quality of life for the individuals that live in Ada as renters. The link below is copied from the Allendale Township web site and gives all the details of their rental registration program. This is a great program as it insures renters are living in safe homes that are up to code. It also creates minimum levels of acceptability for home maintenance which all homeowners in Ada should be thrilled about. I hope that a similiar ordinance will be adopted in Ada for the good of homeowners and renters. I hope to see this on the agenda for the next meeting either for the Township board of the planning commission.
